The Secret of Quick Fix

Just because you're short on time or don't know where to start with fixing a photo doesn't mean you want anything less than the best. Many editing tools include an option for automatic edits, but this kind of automatic editing does not always work the way you want—these tools do not "see" the way you do, and they can overdo their changes. But the new Quick Fix function is different from this and much, much smarter...

Quick Fix

Here's the scoop on the secret behind Quick Fix, straight from a Zoner Photo Studio 11 developer:

Quick Fix takes a picture and lightly increases contrast at its edges, then automatically adjusts contrast throughout the picture. That is, it stretches out the histogram; in other parts of the program, this enhancement is called "automatic contrast."

Quick Fix

What Quick Fix does next depends on the character of the individual picture, and what Zoner Photo Studio can learn from its EXIF picture information. It slightly increases saturation for pictures that need that. For pictures taken under poor lighting conditions, it removes noise. How much noise it will remove depends on the ISO sensitivity used when taking the picture. Finally it sharpens the picture. Like noise removal, this too depends on what it has learned from a picture's EXIF information. Sharpening also depends on how much noise removal was done.

Quick Fix

Quick Fix does not automatically correct exposure or do white balancing. When a program does either of these two things automatically, there is no guarantee it will not cross the line between improving the picture and worsening it. So instead of these, Quick Fix concentrates on doing the best possible job at the safest kinds of useful photo enhancements. This makes this Quick Fix function one that can safely see a lot of use and is a great starting point even for advanced users.

In short, Quick Fix safely adjusts your picture’s contrast and, if needed, eliminates excess noise. And it does all this in a quick operation that you can use on every photo in a folder with just one click.

Quick Fix

Remember, just like with any other edit, you should use Quick Fix on copies of your photos, not the originals.

You can find Quick Fix under Edit | Adjust | Quick Fix in the Browser, or Adjust | Quick Fix in the Editor. You can also run Quick Fix by clicking the Quick Fix icon button.

To discover the secret of QuickFix, you need to have installed Zoner Photo Studio 11. If you do not have it yet, you can download it here.
